What To Do In Phuket With Kids

Often people mistake Phuket for party town central, with the bangla road in Patong getting a bad rap it often spreads the myth that Thailand over all is not a country for kids. Yet it couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes walking down Bangla Road after 8.00pm probably isn’t the best thing to do with children. But Phuket is the so friendly and welcoming that I would say it is highly kid friendly.

The locals will go out of their way to ensure that you are accommodated to and there are so many places to see and do with kids. What to do in Phuket with kids- Check them out below.

WHAT TO DO IN PHUKET WITH KIDS

There really is a lot of things to do in Phuket with kids, it has come a long way over the years. There are plenty of places to eat and the standard of cleanliness has come a long way too. The locals know that if tourists get sick it makes a big impact on their customers so the restaurants are very clean. In saying that still take hand sanitiser and wash hands where you can.

The local women love tourists and our children have white blonde hair so this made them the attraction. Our children did get used to everyone touching their hair after a while and we did teach them to say stop if they had, had enough.

TRICKEYE MUSEUM

The Trickeye Museum is well worth a visit if you have never been to a place like this before and it’s a bonus because it’s not too far away. The trickeye museum is located in the Phuket town. It is great for the kids and they will have a laugh and a giggle at the photo’s after. So remember to charge those camera batteries the night before to capture all the cool effects that the Trickeye Museum has on offer.

SPLASH JUNGLE WATER PARK

Phuket is well known for it’s humidity and no matter what time of the year you go, it is always a good time for some water park fun! Whether you are after a relaxing day in the water or the adrenaline from the rides. Even though Dan and I didn’t do any adrenline crazy rides, we did enjoy watching the kids have so much fun. There was the lazy river we which we could all do together and the kids loved the aqua play and kids pool. When the kids get a bit older we said we would come here to do some of the older kids rides. Again this is not far of a drive, it is about a 30 minute drive from Patong Beach and 15 minutes from the airport.

KIDZOONA

It was a super hot and humid day in Phuket and we had previously had some big exploring days. We headed out for some lunch and landed in Jungceylon Shopping Mall which was a short walk from our hotel. To our surprise we came across Kidzoona a place where children can role play different careers and explore all on their own.

It was brilliant, we sat back and let them explore on their own. It was nice and air conditioned too. There is also a big blow up slippery slide and ball pit. Highly recommend for younger children for a day of inside activities.

PHUKET FANTASEA SHOW

The Phuket Fantasea Show was one show that we did skip, we just didn’t think our children were going to sit through a 70 minute show. Although it is first on our list when we return this year! The show consists of over 400 people both cast and crew, with 44 elephants, three tigers, 40 goats, 40 chickens and 400 pigeons. Activities and entertainment, games, shopping and a carnival village plus the 4000 seat buffet dinner it sounds ah-mazing!

TEMPLE HOPPING

What better way to learn and get immersed in the culture of Thailand than to visit the temples. When we took our children out of school we strongly felt that there was a better way to learn about the world and one aspect was a world of travel. If your children are old enough visiting the different temples in the local area can be both insightful and interesting at the same time. I recommend getting a driver and car for this and letting them know which temples you would like to go to.

As these temples are a religious site it is considered disrespectful to arrive in clothes that show shoulders, lots of leg etc. Please ask before going to the temple what the dress code is, if you have arrived and you feel you have dressed incorrectly most of the temples have sarongs that you can borrow at no extra charge. Children under 5 are usually fine and can wear their normal clothes.

The above picture is Phuket Buddha Big Temple and simply breath taking in person.

GO-KART SPEEDWAY

We took a tuk tuk to the Phuket speedway, which the kids loved! We had the music loud and the wind in their hair, even I loved the ride. At the speedway we were originally going for Dan to have a ride but we found out it also catered for young children as well. All of our children went for a ride on the double seated go-kart with either Dan or myself and we putted around. The double seats have a steering wheel which isn’t connected and it let’s the kids feel like they are driving. Our children had a ball and after their go was finished they stood on the side cheering Dad on.

JAMES BOND ISLAND BOAT TOUR

The tour we took was one that cruised through Phang Nga Bay. Cruising on a speed boat to the islands took about 2 hours, on the way we had snacks and drinks. We drove past the famous James Bond Island. It was nice to get off the boat and take the canoes through the ‘hongs’ which are limestone caves, paddled by a tour guide. At one stage everyone had to duck right down to avoid hitting our head. We spotted bats inside the cave while cruising along the water on the canoe. It was quiet relaxing.

On the way home a buffet lunch was provided, mainly thai food with some fruit for afterwards and to finish the day we all had a brilliant time jumping off the roof of the boat into the water, everyone but Cayden. Unfortunately Cayden is anaphylactic to nuts and had a reaction to some of the food, the fruit must of touched some nuts and his face and tongue swelled. So he had a sleep on the chairs. The staff were so helpful and accommodating about this, they brought us ice and wet flannels to try and ease the swelling. Lucky it was a major reaction that we didn’t need the Epipen.
